Best flight for weight allowance

Post by New Gal »

Hey all,

After much to-ing and fro-ing, decided to get my brother to bring some of my bits over at end of Jan which gives me good few weeks to get a flat etc so I need to get your advice on:

A) Which flight I should book him on as have heard Egypt Air do a big weight allowance??

B) They only fly from Heathrow is that right? And into Cairo?

C) Any other carriers you may know of

D) Best way for him to then get from Cairo to Hurghada i.e flight versus bus etc

Been on Egypt Air website, I think I remember reading either here or on the blue side that Egypt Air allow up to 60 kilos without charge but their site says that you can fly from Heathrow to Hurghada but it stops at Cairo and allows 32 kilos of luggage to be checked in.

Also looked at KLM. You can fly from Manchester to Cairo, changing at Amsterdam and check in luggage of 20 kg (44 lbs) + 1 golf bag not exceeding 20 kg (44 lbs).

Price: £270.

All tips and suggestions appreciated,

As ever, thanks so much x

KLM and Lufthansa should both be 2 bags of 23 KG each, with 10 KG hand luggage. The flights to Cairo are based on the piece concept instead of the weight concept - should all be explained in the baggage questions on their website.

Regarding Egyptair - I keep hearing they allow this number of luggage - but each time I go to check it out I can only see 20 K, they may or may not charge excess on the bag up to 32K. Give them a call and see what they say.

Think all airlines ALLOW up to 32 K to be checked in in a single bag, but if they decide to charge you excess on the bit over that they allow will be something you'll have to check with them individually.

Baggage

Post by Claire »

Air France also have the two pieces of luggage of 23 Kilos and 10 KG hand luggage.
I have used Air France from Manchester (change in Paris), KLM and Lufthansa also from Manchester changing in Amsterdam and Frankfurt and have had no problems with luggage. But they do stick closely to the 46 kilos and you are supposed to have two bags of 23. You can't have one really heavy bag and another lighter one totalling 46!
You can get good deals on all carriers online with Lastminute.com.
