We said yesterday, how about a short break by rail. A friend went to Marseille last year and my wife suggested we go for a few days. We have already decided against it but in checking the possibilities I came across some interesting (to me) facts.
Eurostar high speed trains run out of London St Pancras Station.
There is a direct service to Marseille.
Distance is about 800miles
Journey time 6hours 30minutes
Speed up to 200mph.I
Single fare as little as £50.
As I said, useless information but as Eurostar trains stop at Ashford International Station, just 14 miles from my home, I could do that journey just shy of 6 hours.
That is much faster and cheaper than air travel.
