This has happened to me and I'm really glad to have finally found out the reason....The following write up explains so much.
"Ever walk into a room with some purpose in mind, only to completely forget what that purpose was?
Turns out, doors themselves are to blame for these strange memory lapses.
Psychologists at the University of Notre Dame have discovered that passing through a doorway triggers what's known as an event boundary in the mind, separating one set of thoughts and memories from the next.
Your brain files away the thoughts you had in the previous room and prepares a blank slate for the new locale."
It's not aging, it's the damn door !
Whew! Thank goodness for studies :-)

Re: Ladies - the answer we've all been waiting for! Men too
That's a relief!
I find the only solution is to go back to the place you were last and look around to find the thing that will trigger the memory of why you left it in the first place. Never fails!
But I'm wondering why put this in this forum?

You are correct WI, it is not only a women thing.
I sometimes go upstairs for some reason, forget why, and have to go back down to hopefully trigger the reason.
This usually works but when it starts not to work then, OMG, demetia is setting in.

Guilty as charged. I often get those "now what was I doing?" moments.

Same here folks! I usually have to go back to where I started to remember
but sometimes I love a search in my house & find a little purse with £20 note, sometimes more sometimes less & forget what I put this money away for in the first place

Re: Ladies - the answer we've all been waiting for! Men too
Mostly I put it in this category as this seems to me to be the only health related forum topic AND I figured those snoopy guys we have on here would read it anyway!
Personally I find that it isn't only doors that cause me to forget - the walls have been really acting up lately and the windows are not far behind. I've been looking pretty suspiciously at the oven, washer, dryer, dishwasher, microwave lately too cause I think all those "let me help you" appliances have an ulterior motivation. Use 'em and they just suck the memory out your brain! AND don't even get me started about the lawn mower - that damn thing
- Soon as I look at it my brain just immediately fails to remember 'why' I might be looking at the lawn mower. Usually takes me several days to remember 'why' I was looking at it in the first place!
I hate forgetting especially names - OMG - that can be embarrassing
AND, for me, it only take time to get the name to come to the tip of my tongue (and even then I sometimes can't spit it out)

Do what I do, just address everyone as "hello my friend, how are you?"

Good idea H AND since I normally never address anybody this way I'm sure it will add to my defense that I'm 'not all there' anymore!

The word here, in Canada (west coast anyway) is to call everybody "Buddy" and then after a pause add "Eh?"
