The documents say Beckham's great-great-great-great grandfather, John Beckham, born in 1846, was employed by a London borough council as a scavenger. This job was also called a 'Mudlark' due to the fact that they waded knee deep in the mud of the river Thames to scavenge bits of rope, bones and metal.
