The weekend Royal event

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

Our TV this morning is FULL of the upcoming wedding of Harry & Megan. Can't believe the 'issue' of the morning is that her Dad isn't coming to the wedding & why!!

Quite a bit of time reserved for this event.

I'm giving you a "sure thing" re: bet. It is a "sure thing" for you to bet on that I would NEVER as is NEVER EVER in a MILLION PLUS YEARS go camp out anywhere so as to see a Royal or Any wedding of any celeb. Apparently people have now been camping out for upwards of 2 days (as per the News here) so as to be able to see whatever it is they're going to get to see of this wedding!

I have no idea if the actual wedding will be televised or not but even if I was inclined to watch it it would be from the comfort of my own home chair with my feet up - just like I watch everything else. I realize that I will vicariously get to SEE this wedding as it is going to be on the TV news so I will be able to see snippets of it and that is ok.

Last wedding I watched (couldn't help but see it as it was on absolutely every TV channel here) was that of Princess Diana. I can still see her in my mind's eye wearing that great billowy dress with a train that went out and around the block.

Me too H. :td Neither event interests me in the slightest.

The whole wedding thing is a bit of a circus, they even have 'Rent a Crowd' to wave flags and cheer the coach as they parade around Windsor.

And LLL, there is a core of Royal 'adorists' who will travel far and wide to see events like this, even camp in a tent for days beforehand. BUT they are a minority and most Brits are not a bit interested, at least all the blokes. Many ladies will look in for no other reason than to see what everyone is wearing.

@Grandad - OMG just after I read your comment that people go to see what the Royals are wearing I see a headline on the Internet re: Princess Diana refusing to wear Chanel heels"! - Like WHO cares. Really really really "who cares?"

Course, personally, I'm distraught over Megans Dad not making it to her wedding. Downright distraught, stomach just churning. Probably not even going to sleep tonight I'm so upset :urm: :urm: :| :| :td :td

I for one will be watching from start to finish, I love seeing a royal wedding :)

BTW....I just read that Prince Charles will be walking Megan down the isle & her mother will be in the coach with her
around Windsor.

I suppose its more fitting Prince Charles doing it rather than first thoughts of Prince William.

I already had you down as a royal watcher Kiya ;) yes I suppose its quite nice for her to have a father figure to give her away and in some way it bestows a sort of acceptance by the royal family I suppose, good luck to them both anyway.

A little titbit for our American friends, it has just been announced that Prince Harry will be (is now) granted title of the 'Duke of Sussex' so Megan will become the 'Duchess of Sussex' after her marriage. Incidentally she will be the first to hold that title as the first 'Duke of Sussex' did not have a legitimate wife. ;)
My Silver Sussex chicken will be very happy :D

OK against my better wishes I have just watched the royal wedding and must say she looked lovely. It was so nice to see Harry looking slightly apprehensive and William glancing up the aisle and and smiling as he saw Megan walking down towards them. It was also nice to see Charles step out half way and escort her to the alter, both seemed very pleased by that small gesture, just a shame her own father could not have done that. Anyway that’s enough of me being an old softie, back to polishing my caravan. ;)

Edit: I did notice that George Clooney and his Mrs were in the congregation, can't for the life of me think why I didn't get an invite :?: perhaps Harry will explain himself later.

My excuse was that I was expecting an Amazon delivery. Actually I went to sleep during the ceremony, fortunately my new big dustbin arrived after it was all over.

I do think we Brits are good at this kind of event. I got enormous pleasure from the attention to detail, first the chap who was apparently sweeping negligible dust at the side of the path as people arrived. I thought Security immediately as he was more interested the people that the "dust".

The mown grass, both in the park and in the courtyard was simply immaculate, the mowing lines were fantastic. Also the carriage of course, didn't have a driver or a brake. I was interested when they went down the hill how smoothly they controlled the outfit, especially as there were no breaching straps around the horses lower rumps - for want of a better word. So the weight of the carriage pushing forward was held back simply by the harness round the front half of the horse and attached to the central pole. Great control by the riders.

The children were beautifully behaved, the flowers were superb and everyone seemed to be genuinely enjoying themselves except for one woman - yup, Victoria Beckham. Wearing black and looking like Cinderella before the fairy godmother arrived, maybe she should have stayed at home.

As usual the bride's hair irritated me, those scruffy strands near her face are a big mistake, but she always wears them. I'd love to see her hair curly as it was when she was young. Maybe she'll see sense some day as my daughter did. She spent a small fortune on straightening her natural blond curls and then a decent hairdresser persuaded her to let it dry naturally after shampooing. Looks great, saves her time and money.

PS Why do they call Henry, Harry? Surprised me to hear "Harry do you …….." I love the name Henry. One of my favourites.

We were asked not to use social media at the reception so I have had to come to one of the Portaloo's.
This reception thing is not much of a DO! It's a stand up job, plate in one hand, drink in the other; how are you supposed to respond when introduced to someone? You could have had our tickets H
Didnt you see me going down 'The Long Walk' on my scooter?

Who the hell was that Gospel preacher who more than took his moment in the spotlight. And what on earth was he talking about, we were waiting for Camilla to burst out laughing, she was definitely on the verge.

Victoria Beckham makes an art form out of looking miserable :urm:
Yes everything was organised extremely well (something we Brits do very well).
Now I’m all for inclusiveness, but the black ethnic stuff was a bit overdone, we didn’t really need that, to my mind it singled her mixed race out rather than just accepting her as a person in her own right. That bible belt preacher will give the Archbishop of Canterbury something to think about. :D

:( I truly didn't watch it :P :P

All I've seen so far on the TV News are a few of the highlights. I did like her dress in that it seemed straight cut and simple (no flounces and laces and poof) and the weather seems to have cooperated very nicely too.

Am sure during the day I'll see enough snips and snaps of it that it'll seem like I have watched it.

There isn't much else on TV here either except the Royal Wedding so I can't help but see bits and pieces of it. Tomorrow we should be back to normal viewing but for now the TV is totally full of it.

One thing I did find interesting is that this wedding has apparently cost $50million (give or take) but they're estimating it will have made $100million for the economy.

WHO has actually paid for the nuptials? Is it the Royal Family? or is it the UK taxpayer?

It's a bit of both really, they probably paid for the private stuff, but we the tax payers will be footing the rest such as security etc. which will cost a fortune, then there is all the military stuff and the public buildings. Having said that we do benefit quite a bit from our monarchy and pageantry so I suppose we cannot complain too much. :up

I liked her dress, but I said to DH that I could have made it in a couple of days and certainly a hell of a lot cheaper than Givenchy probably charged!
