I learn something new every day and today it was that I have Fungus Flies.
Never heard of them before, but using the helpful voice app on the laptop for the first time I instantly found the answer to what these really minute little flies were up to. I wasn't worried as they never seemed to go on the plants and were only as big as a pin prick .......... who would have known that their larvae can cause disaster among seedlings as they eat the tiny emerging roots?
Am I the only one here that hasn't heard of these chaps before?
Fungus Flies.

Re: Fungus Flies.
Fungus flies??? I have never heard of them and they eat the roots of seedlings?
I sure hope they're not out there eating the roots off my seeds. I had to go out and re-plant some of the pea seeds because it was so wet after I planted the first few that only about half germinated (seeds were new bought this year so I think they were good). I do have the great wilderness just on the other side of the fence so it is also very possible that some animal came and scrounged the seeds aka squirrel.

Re: Fungus Flies.
Personally I think it is mice too. I have no doubt that come the wee hours or soon as it turns dark the little guys come out and forage for whatever they can find. IF I could keep a feral cat around I would as I'm darn sure there are LOTS of mice to catch and eat out there.
