Yes LLL, it is an Albino Hedgehog, very popular as a pet, I have my own wild one that visits my garden quite regular. :up

I didn't really think a hedgehog would be the type of pet to actually be petted & lay there.

The captive bred ones seem to behave in a pet like manner. You wouldn't want a wild one as they are covered in fleas.

I don't relate to lots of "Pets" of today. No way will a rabbit ever get to run around the house loose doing what it wants. Same with ferrets which are real common pets here nowadays. Neither of these, imo, seem comfortable in the pet role.

I can't imagine keeping a hedgehog as a pet, they're hardly soft & cuddly are they?

Our 6 baby ones we rescued didn't have fleas I'm pleased to say! Certainly one of the ones that visit here seems to have visitors as it is always scratching.

I don't think they all have fleas, no doubt similar to dogs although many of them do. I raised a family of six many years ago after they were ousted from a neighbours demolished garage, They were no bigger than a small potato so I made them a covered den in my greenhouse and they did very well with me releasing them all into the wild some time later. :up

I've seen street dogs (not here but primarily Trinidad) that suffered fleas, ticks to the point of having no hair. Their state was totally appalling and their lives revolved around scrounging food and scratching. Even pets there were often plagued by fleas which meant they were consigned to the outside of homes which meant most were not terribly friendly. Was always shocking how animals were treated there.

I wonder if it was the fleas and ticks or possibly mange which often leaves them bald, and is caused by mites. I hate to see any animal neglected.

The street dogs in Trinidad have everything. They literally crawled with fleas, ticks, mites - you really didn't want to get to close to them as they were snarling, snapping, unhappy animals. NOT that they wanted to get close to you either as their lives were people yelling and throwing rocks at them. Terribly upsetting and sad to see these dogs.

Sometimes at night you'd hear a thump and then a puppy cry. Was the local way of disposing of unwanted puppies. Totally awful.

Many countries sadly take a very cruel attitude towards animals.

Don't disagree.

Here pets are on par with about with a child. My pets had all the bells and whistles but I have to admit I shake my head at some pet owners who have buggies for their dogs, carry them in back packs and dress them up to the nines. Can't say I ever did that although I did have a dog jacket for both really cold and wet weather.

I suppose Annie is spoiled in as much as she lacks for nothing, but she is still a pet at the end of the day although a very well cared for and much loved one. Apart from her 'bling' collar (the daughters fault) she has no additions other than a visit to the groomers about every 2 months.
