On Saturday we purchased a new rug to replace one in our lounge.
I have a coffee table on Gumtree and in the absence of any response I decided to offer the rug on Freecycle, which I did yesterday. This is the local group and I had 5 very prompt responses.
This is the picture I posted with description: Wool deep pile rug 120 x 180cm
10272
To be fair, I offered to the first respondent and asked him for a time that would be convenient to him to come and see the item. Response....zilch.
Offered to next person who said he could collect any time. I emailed suggesting 10am this morning. Response...zilch. I emailed to ask if he would be coming, still no response.
So, #3 respondent gave her mobile number which I called. She is interested for her daughter but she is waiting for her daughter to respond to her. Patience now running thin but as this sounded a mature lady I told her I would hold it over until I hear from her.
I expect that the first two are students and they have no common courtesy to respond if they simply change their mind or can't get a buddy with a car to bring them round.
This will be my first and last free offering on Freecycle. I would rather give to a charity shop or take to the tip. :xx

Reminds me of a time when I offered an electronic knitting machine and all the accoutrements on there, Grandad. As you can imagine, I had responses galore, so I went for the 1st one. She gave me her address, DH took it over to her but nobody home! This despite her protesting afterwards that she was there all the time! If I tell you that instead of Windows and doors, there were sheets of metal, you'll know why DH knocked once and didn't hang about! It went to the second on the list - who had a broken leg, so couldn't go far! Mind you, we had to take it to her, but at least I could see that it went to a decent home.

I've spent quite a lot of time in happy tears this week end. I recieved a photo of my new and first step-granddaughter taken immediately after she was born and lifted from her mother's bed by her father who is a Obs & Gyne specialist.

There was a beautiful message from her father, and she has been named after me - my Arabic name which no on else in the family has. I feel very honoured and emotional.

Mabruk on the birth of your grandaughter MD & what a lovely compliment to name her after you.

So sorry to hear of your rotten experience Grandad, guess we must have just been very lucky I think only 1 person failed to turn up out of probably 30 or 40 that did.

I have lost count of the problems in giving away decent free stuff, I had one woman who rang to say could I possibly bring it around to her house (20 miles away) so she could view prior to accepting it! I had another who kept asking if a free sofa bed (hardly used) would fit in a ............. she then proceeded to list every small 2 door car on the market, despite my contantly repeating that it was as big as a 'Sofa' I now just take stuff the tip. Even the charity shops are a problem, I offered them a perfectly good Teak 8 seater dining table and chairs, all like new, their response was they could not take the chairs if they did not have a fire retardant label on each one. I then offered to keep the chairs for a couple of weeks and they could give the recipient of the table my phone number and they could collect the chairs themselves, thus negating any responsibility on the charities part. This of course was too much trouble, result 8 perfectly good dining room chairs to match the table went to the tip. Nowadays I don't even bother, if a friend or relative does not want them its in the skip.

I mentioned that I saw a cardiac consultant Monday of last week. Today I received a copy of his letter to my GP. A very comprehensive summary of his findings and other medical observations. I won't copy all the text but this is the important extract as far as I am concerned.
"I reviewed Mr X in my clinic and you very kindly sent echos from 2017 and 2018. He has got inferior hypokinesia which is not being addressed so far. He has chronic AF which is rather slow, and reduced LV function for which he is on some medication. I think an angiogram is in order and I have scheduled him. I have started him on Clopidogrel in case I need to stent."
I do understand all these terms and know exactly what the score is. I already have an appointment for angiogram early May and todays letter included an appointment in September for a follow up review.
I shall be 85 next birthday and I know my heart is in poor condition, having had acute rheumatic fever in my early twenties and a heart attack in my early fifties, but they are still prepared to continue to keep it pumping when they could just say "It's your age" and do nothing. Isn't the NHS brilliant :up :up :up

Good Luck Grandad. I had an angiogram about 10 years ago as so many of my relatives died in their 50s and 60s with heart problems. It was absolutely fascinating to watch the progress on the big screen and to read the report afterwards. The specialist also gave be a DVD of the whole thing.

I guess the procedure is the same on the NHS but I must admit I paid for it because I was commuting to Egypt still and wanted to get it over and done asap. £2500 well spent in my opinion. All was well and my mind put to rest very quickly.

@Grandad - the plan sounds pretty good to me and in today's world 85 isn't overly old. Maybe 95 but definitely not 85. Hopefully if a stent is needed it'll go in easily with no complications.

LLL, I have a few problems including two cancers that I have not bored you with. I think I have already mentioned that I am now well past the longest living member in my tree so I am counting my blessings ;) :up
As for the NHS, I will take anything they offer....next procedure is the laser eye treatment on Tuesday. That should be a simple and quick procedure. #3 granddaughter is going to do the taxi job for me to the hospital. That now makes her my favourite

Something other than Brexit :up
Following the failure of my trail cam I have lost touch with the wildlife. I spotted a big dog fox outside late this pm. We had a chicken carcass and some scraps that I put out and waited.
The light was failing but first at the table was a large crow followed by one of his cousins, a magpie.
102771027810279
They made several return trips until little was left. Mr Fox arrived to clear up the scraps.

But he will have done OK because we had chicken pasta for dinner and the leftovers went out after dark when the birds had gone to roost.

I got the confirmation letter and information booklet today for my Angioplasty on 1 May. OMG, enough there to scare the life out of you with possible side effects.
The worst being, Stroke, Heart Attack, Death.......they soften the news by saying the chances are 1 in 500..... I'll take that ;) :)

Great fox photo! And he definitely does look in really great shape too. Lovely coat.

I hate hearing the adverts on TV for any type of medication cause they always list out all the side effects some of which are totally terrible - like your ears will swell, turn purple and fall off! :o :o :o

I've just been doing a gentle investigation into yet another box of the Stuff my daughter brought down from Kent and I found something I collected as a kid and I don't know what you would call them.

Similar to football cigarette cards but made of aluminium they depict a Whitbread's Inn sign on one side and a history of the pub on the other. One packet says in my Dad's writing "Complete first series" and the others are not complete series. Has anyone else heard of these?

Wow, that's a blast from the past MD. I remember those Whitbread pub sign collectables very well, must have been the fifties or sixties. And how bright and shiny they were on polished aluminium.
We had many Whitbread pubs in Canterbury but now, as far as I know, they have all changed hands. Shepherd Neame is now the biggest local brewer.
Whitbread diversified and now own Premier Inn and other leisure businesses.

I just found them on Ebay under Whitbread Inn signs. Prices go from £1 up to £20 - to think of what wages were then and these free the print.gifts make today seems crazy.

My dear Father's died in 1954 so they are obviously before that.. They are stuck together though I think they have got damp at some time so I shall have to be gentle in separating them. I pulled two apart this morning and slightly damaged the print.

It is about now that the local foxes should have their new cubs. The vixen stays in the earth for about 4 weeks after the birth and depends entirely on the dog fox to bring her food.
We always put out table scraps but this morning on my trip to the local Sainsburys I bought some tins of dog food to supplement any other scraps we put out.
Got to give those cubs a good start in life ;) :up
