Last Minute for Christmas

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

This year to quote the oldest twin Grandson "I'm feeling the love" cause I've got everything I need to do for Christmas DONE! Everything is wrapped, the 3 quilts are sewn for the Grandkids, Christmas cards are already sent and the turkey is frozen in the freezer (am cooking it for me on the 24th as this year I'm heading to the Daughter & Son-In-Laws house for Christmas dinner. Tree is up and decorated (thanks to the twins plus one :up ) and the outdoor lights (single string of lights so no big deal really) plus the blow ups (x4 of them) are outside.

Feeling pretty good right now that I have NO hectic rush to face and all is done.

BUT - what am I forgetting? I'm hoping zip but one never knows ..........should I be worried?

Well done LLL! I made a good start, but ever the prevaricator haven't actually wrapped let alone posted the presents.

I like Christmas, it's a time for remembering families and old friends - a pity it's got so commercial.

I've bought 1TB external memories for myself and daughters. I think it will be very useful for all of us and are quite small to post.

The only thing we have got to do is get ourselves to Gatwick for the 08.50 to Innsbruck on 23rd, and a taxi is pre booked for that. And from when we arrive, other people will be doing everything for us. We will stay in a typical alpine hotel on half board, 5 course dinner each evening, cable car to the mountain top just along the road, and a nearby tram stop into Innsbruck.

Christmas street parade and carols on 23rd and if there is snow, maybe a sleigh ride around the village. We are looking forward to getting away from the Christmas routine that has completely lost its meaning by being overwhelmed with commercialism.

@Grandad & Mrs Grandad - Want company? :a52: :a52: Your Christmas is starting to sound better than mine! :a18: :a18:

I like getting together with everybody over Christmas but it is sometimes a bit difficult. Am going this Sunday to an open house one gf & her hubby are putting on so will catch up with a few people there. Have lots of time with the daughter & Grandkids slotted in too so all in all "I think" everything is ready, finished and done (but I have that niggling feeling I'm missing something).

So I thought I was done done for Christmas but it has just come to me with the coming of a few sleep overs by the Grandkids I'm going to have to hide a few albeit wrapped gifts. They are pretty good at not touching ever and looking only with their eyes but they all possess x-ray vision and will easily guess what a couple of their gifts are.

I'm off out today searching for one last gift for one of my DIL's. This one is a pain to buy for because she works, so if she wants anything, she buys it! :tk Then next week will be constant shopping for all the Christmas food. No peace for the wicked!

We are not doing presents as we will be away (I know I am boring you  ) but we thought a 'Secret Santa' would be a good idea so that we DO have something on Christmas Eve. That is when they have their main meal and celebration throughout most of Europe.

To show impartiality, I put the names of our small group into my computer and got it to throw up random pairings. Not very secret  I told everyone who they are buying for.

Pretty much I buy Christmas presents for the Grandkids and that is that. Each daughter gets $$ as then they can get something they want (usually jewelry) which suits me (& them) as their tastes and mine typically don't match at all.

When I was working I'd participate in Secret Santas or whatever the group opted to do but I've found buying something for somebody I don't know well rather stressful. I also never wanted anybody to stress about getting me something either. I'm not one for getting gifts however have a girl friend and she likens herself to a child at holiday times. She insists her husband buy her lots for every occasion and if he doesn't OMG she is ANGRY!!

I do love getting all the handmade cards and pictures the Grandkids make and am anticipating a book from the twins - I mean who can live without the next latest and greatest episode of Captain Diapers! Those are what I enjoy and they're so excited to give me their creations too.

Just having my morning cuppa and the realization hit me that we're now on a 7 day count down. Took the turkey out this morning (I'm cooking one for me on the 24th, going to the daughter's to eat hers on the 25th and then having them over for leftovers on the 26th) but only SEVEN days now to get it all ready!?!?!? Thought I was ready & prepared but now I'm starting to look around and think on it .........

@RS :o :o :o THREE HOURS? :o :o :o I'd be comatose. Totally dead if that was me. I gave up baking a few years ago as I baked by arse off to have people pick at it, give the "I'm on a diet" and guess who had most of it left over? So now it is really zip. You'll get cheese & some salami/pepperoni type meat, gherkins & dill pickles with crackers and I'm DONE! ;) That is as fancy as it is going to get here. :a52: :a52: :a52: And my "menu" covers Christmas, New Years, Valentines, Easter ....... any occasion I'm ready!

I got half my shopping delivered last week and the rest comes on Thursday afternoon. As I'm next to a small supermarket I can make up anything else from there. I'm not sure what is currently "allowable" for my girls who have so many allergies and are also Vegan. #2 daughter usually brings her own as far as possible.

We tend to give presents all year round as my youngest daughter was born on New Year's Eve and her father on Christmas Eve so they wouldn't be left out of presents later in the year. It's surprising how many people will say "Oh that's your Christmas and birthday present combined" which spoils the occasion for the child. Actually I do think we might also do it because we actually like giving - quite selfish in it's own way.

All the Daughter's in-laws are celiac and the twins have/had allergies up the whazoo (but getting much better i.e. they can eat eggs now and regular bread) so I really haven't been able to bake for anybody for years. Her in-laws are seriously celiac and so mostly bring their own food, don't eat anything unless they SEE the recipe - totally foreign concept here as I don't have written recipes - they in the vault of my mind!

I'm like you MD IF I do happen to need something I have no problem quickly going to the store and buying something I can bring in AND I never hesitate to take credit for slaving for HOURS and HOURS and HOURS over a hot stove to make it all either!! :)

I'm probably known as the Kitchen Witch cause nobody ever knows 'which' item I've cooked is going to taste ok and adding extra potions and charms doesn't necessarily make it taste any better. My claim to fame is that I kept TWO girls alive and got them to adulthood! My culinary skills are ....... well :urm: not going to go there ........
