I was out this morning intending to go to The Greyfriars, the remains of one of the old priories in the city. My route took me past this building which I have known of all my life but never been inside.
It is the building designed and constructed in 1932 to house the Kent Museum of Freemasonry. It is open to the public free of charge so I parked my scooter at the front door and went in to explore.
The exterior is very plain red brick but the interior has a glazed roof making it very light and the whole museum, although rather small, is very well presented
I was greeted by one of the volunteer masons and we spent some time chatting about the organisation and its history. It is no longer the 'Secret Society' of its old reputation although of course there are things that are confidential to the members.
They have more than 3000 significant freemasonry artifacts either hanging on the walls or displayed in illuminated glass cabinets. They were pleased to tell me that their museum is rated the best Freemasonry Museum in the UK and that they have received a Tripadvisor excellence award three years in succession as a result of the high level of Tripadvisor reviews. Here are a few more random views inside the museum.
I certainly need to make a return visit because on one of the information boards I found reference to the ship on which my grandfather was torpedoed and killed in 2014. There is plenty there to keep me busy for several visits.
Greyfriars will have to wait for another day.....

Very interesting and quite coincidental that I just this morning "saved" on Netflix a series (I think documentary) re: The FreeMasons. Looks to be interesting.
