Sad to hear of the death of professor Steven Hawking, a truly remarkable man.

Impish and very human being as well as gifted and hard working. A wonderful example of a person living life to the full.

I loved his sense of humour, I remember him being interviewed and the interviewer said “may I say it is a great pleasure to meet with you” Hawking replied “Yes I know”. He also appeared in the TV show The Simpson’s in which he discussed a ‘doughnut’ shaped universe with Homer. I have also seen him in other TV programs where he made fun of his own disability, truly a great man.

Steven Hawking, a brilliant mind trapped in a crippled body.

Some have asked why was he never knighted. I would not disagree with that sentiment but his appointment as a member of the Companion of Honour (CH) at the young age of 47 seems to me a much higher recognition of his work than the knighthoods that seem to be awarded to all and sundry these days. There can be no more than the Queen and an elite 65 CH's.

The fact that he lived a normal lifespan of 76 years even with his crippling ALS condition has baffled the medical profession when life expectancy can be as little as a few years. Perhaps that is a measure of the inner strength of the man.

We have lost our senior Theoretical Physicist, Cosmologist but his legacy will live on and will continue to be an inspiration for today's young science and physics students and generations who follow.

Rest In Peace Stephen Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA

Apparently Grandad he refused a Knighthood in the 1990s as a protest about government funding of science projects.

In the movie I watched about him just a little while ago it reference he was offered a Knighthood but turned it down. No elaboration as to why.

The Big Bang Theory comedy TV series repeated the episodes that he appeared in, just after the announcement of his death. Such a lively personality in spite of everything he suffered. God Bless him.

In the movie I just watched about him it had a segment where the "Talker" or "Voice" he used was not a British accent. Apparently at some point technology advanced and he could have had a British accent but refused saying people identified him by the auto-voice he had and he didn't want to change it. I know I identified him by that auto-voice.

He was definitely one amazing man in every respect.
