Incident in NY City

Geez was out having the therapist shove needles into my arse, came home, made lunch, turned on the telly and now seeing that some PERSON has taken a rental truck and drove it down a bike only trail in New York City.

They haven't yet ruled in terrorism or not although witnesses have said the drives was yelling "Allahu Akbar." This latest use of driving vehicles to run people down is awful. Death number is estimated to be 6.

Totally awful for the families. Can't imagine the pain at these senseless acts.

NEW YORK (AP) — A motorist drove onto a busy bicycle path near the World Trade Center memorial and struck several people Tuesday, then emerged from the vehicle screaming and firing what appeared to be a gun, police and witnesses said.

At least two bodies could be seen lying motionless on the path beneath tarps near mangled bicycles.

The New York Police Department posted on its Twitter feed that one person was in custody. The department said it was unclear whether anyone was shot or whether the injured were all struck by the vehicle.

A man who was riding in an Uber along the West Side Highway near Chambers Street said he saw several bleeding people on the ground after a truck struck several people. Another witness said the truck had also collided with a small bus and one other vehicle.

Tom Gay, a school photographer, was on Warren Street and heard people saying there was an accident. He went down to West Street and a woman came around the corner shouting, "He has a gun! He has a gun!"

Gay said he stuck his head around the corner and saw a slender man in a blue track suit running southbound on West Street holding a gun. He said there was a heavyset man pursuing him.

He said he heard five or six shots and the man in the tracksuit fell to the ground, gun still raised in the air. He said a man came over and kicked the gun out of his hand.

Uber driver Chen Yi said he saw a truck plow into people on a popular bike path adjacent to the West Side Highway. He said he then heard seven to eight shots and then police pointing a gun at a man kneeling on the pavement.

"I saw a lot of blood over there. A lot of people on the ground," Yi said.

His passenger, Dmitry Metlitsky, said he also saw police standing near a man who was on his knees with his hands up, and another man bleeding on the ground nearby. He said the truck had also collided with a small school bus and one other vehicle.

Police were expected to give a news briefing shortly.

Absolutely tragic. Watching it on the News and this renting of trucks and then using them to mow people down is crazy.

Seems like terrorism to me although the news here is saying it hasn't been determined officially yet.

In my book whatever it's labelled it is frightening people to the point of terror and makes me sick to my stomach with loathing for the creatures who are perpetrating these foul deeds. It doesn't deserve a category or a label, but it seems subhumans will do anything for 15 minutes of fame now. Ugh!

New York City has decided to go ahead with a HUGE Hallowe'en parade. They've ordered in all manner of military armaments to ensure safety of the public.

I get it that terrorist as intent on bringing FEAR to our door and if we cave in to this they have won however as I'm watching all the people on TV I don't know IF I could have taken my two daughters there - to a parade in a City that just had a terror attack via a terrorist using a truck to drive it through crowds mowing people down. Not sure I could take mine there.

That being said I've never liked crowds or even large groups or gatherings so it is a bit of a moot point for me to be even thinking about this but I do admire all those who have ventured out and are not allowing the actions of a single SUB ANIMAL to stop them from enjoying the evening.

From what I'm seeing on the TV News here this man was from Uzbekistan, had a green card to be in the USA and something else that is/was expired. I wish they wouldn't keep saying his name because I don't believe he deserves any fame or notoriety.

Just announced they found an ISIS flag in his vehicle so 'bout says it all.

On another note we recently had a terror attack in Edmonton. They found an ISIS flag in the vehicle used to run down people. Our Gov't is refusing to call it TERROR (even with the flag etc) and are using the lame excuse that just because somebody has a flag in their car (yeah we all carry black ISIS monikered flags) it doesn't make them a terrorist ........FFS!!! And I really do mean it!!.

It is about time that Islam in general divorced itself from this death cult by redefining and even rejecting many things currently contained within the Koran that gives purpose to how these people think and act. A complete rejection of all those verses that praise or encourage Jihad or make references to none Muslims being ‘Kuffar’ or ‘Infidel’, in other words remove from your holy book all references to killing or warring against “none believers” a phrase that in itself is provocative. Of course that will never happen as a core belief is that every word is the word of god and therefore cannot be changed, a catch 22 situation if ever I saw one, so we will continue going forward with a book that can be interpreted in any way the reader perceives it to mean even in a modern world and not from the perspective of a desert dwelling nomad.

I think you have a point Horus, but in the modern context it is hard to believe that the mayhem caused by the super powers in the Middle East would have been sanctioned by Jesus. Perhaps Christianity is in a similar state?

I can't speak to my Buddhist daughter about the problems in Myanamar, when I showed her newspaper reports a year ago she was very disturbed and said it was all lies.

Humanity has been guilty of appalling acts, yet some people seem indifferent - maybe because they aren't on the receiving end.

I have always believed that no one wins a war, everybody loses.

Listening to all the talking heads this morning on TV talking about the incident. Interesting to note that this particular perpetrator had never been the subject of an investigation or hassled by police etc. They were getting at that, on the surface, he had no reason to retaliate against anybody or society in general in the USA they could make out. He did have an Isis flag and written words linking him to Isis and said something like the Islamic state would endure forever.

I don't believe for a second that the Muslim world is full of people wanting wage jihad. I too wish the mainstream Muslim world would put forward something that separates these animals from it and somehow manages to label them not as martyrs or heroes but as animals not worthy of saying they are Muslim. Secondarily I wish they could somehow remove the entire jihad concept. NO more WARS against anybody ever!

I would agree MD, but at least the Bible does not single out other faiths for special treatment as does Islam.
Having said that I despise all religions equally, all are IMO cults for the weak minded to follow.
