A couple of unidentified men watch from the rocks as a killer whales swims by in the same spot they were swimming in seconds earlier.
A swim in the ocean turned into quite the whale tale for two men at Whytecliff Park over the weekend.
Video shot by Vancouver photographer Robin Leveille shows three killer whales moving quickly towards the shore before panning over to show the unidentified men scrambling onto the rocks at the West Vancouver Park.
One orca swims right up to the shore where the men were swimming seconds earlier.
Leveille posted the video to social media.
Click on the arrow in the photo - the men scrambled out of the water but one of the orcas came right up to the rock line. Heart would have been pounding.

Re: Whale of a Time
The one orca definitely came up close to have a 'look' at the two guys.
I've been out on the water in a boat when they've gone through and I've never known them to do anything other than swim past. Interesting one of the three swam over to have a look.
You usually hear them spouting well before you see them. They're quite impressive when that HUGE fin emerges out of the water and you realize you're NOTHING in comparison AND you're sitting in a boat that isn't as long as the fin is high.

Did you know that Killer Whales aren't really Whales? they are the same family as Dolphins Perhaps they thought those guys were seals?

Re: Whale of a Time
@Horus - I had the same thought that they thought these guys were wounded seals or some such.
I know the article said somewhere that Orca's don't usually attack humans........well..........usually us humans are NOT swimming in ice cold open ocean water either!

Re: Whale of a Time
I once watched an interesting video of a group of Orcas swimming in a line and then diving under a large piece of floating ice that had a Seal lying on the top thinking it was safe from attack. The large bow wave they created as they did this swept over the ice and washed the Seal into the water, talk about being smart.
