Re: What are you doing today?
On the designer glasses front, you don't have to pay a fortune for designer frames and I never do! It always astonishes me when I read about people who do. My current frames and lenses were £125 and I really thought I was being ripped off, so I never went back to that particular opticians. Usually, I pay between £25-£45 for the complete frames and lenses.
PS. This post isn't a criticism of anyone. Merely an observation.

I think we have discussed this topic before RS. My wife would insist that you get what you pay for. That may be the case with some things, say bespoke tailoring for instance, but I always argue with her when it comes to specs.
Having said that, there is a distinct difference between the lens quality in my, and probably your glasses, and those much more expensive. If she comes home and says she is having new glasses with Varilux lenses, I shall not complain. With her eye condition she deserves the best and I will always agree to her having the best.
On a totally unrelated subject, this is the painting book that I downloaded from Amazon. It is very basic but just what I need to get me going.

As I said in my previous post, Grandad - not a criticism of anyone. How others choose to spend their money is their right. After all, I'm the woman who would spend £10,000 on a sewing machine and frame in a heartbeat - which most people would shudder at!

Completely agree with you RS, I would do the same if there was something expensive that I wanted. There are no pockets in shrouds you know.Ruby Slippers wrote:As I said in my previous post, Grandad - not a criticism of anyone. How others choose to spend their money is their right. Re: What are you doing today?
Today I am sitting in the hotel lobby (open concept) shivering partly because I have come down with a cold and partly because it is (and has been) pouring down rain with temps hovering just a bit over Freezing. Temperature is actually 52F but that is ridiculously cold for here and everybody is commenting to it through chattering teeth. Soon as my room is made up for the day I'll be in there sleeping under as many blankets as I can get from Housekeeping.

I'm sorry to hear that, LLL! I hope both the afflictions - the cold and your cold - are soon gone, and you can get on and enjoy your break.

Re: What are you doing today?
Been sleeping off a Cold n Flu capsule and strolled down to the lobby coffee shop to get a cuppa tea. Not sure if this is a sign of things to come but the Hotel is now hosting a convention....of the Company that makes diahhrea medicine complete with huge billboards of a gorilla inside toilet cubicles with grimacing faces..
First delayed flights, broke power cord so no laptop or camera then freezing temperatures and now hosting a Poop Fest!!
Can it get better?

Course I could be home where they are getting record rain and roads washing out everywhere. Can't get to some of the Indian Reserves, Coombs And Parksville have multiple Rd washout and a state of emergency has been declared.

Re: What are you doing today?
The weather at present is changing day to day. One day grey with some rain and then sunny and blue sky like today.
Might have a little go at a bit of painting today then this evening we are going to see Darkest Hour at the nearest Vue cinema.
We are not regular cinema goers, last time was Les Miserables 5 years ago. Daughter and SiL are taking us because it is 15 miles to the cinema.

Re: What are you doing today?
On the rare occasions that I visit the cinema, I do expect to be entertained. I found Darkest Hour to be just a documentary account of events in Parliament, the war rooms, and Churchills home, during May 1940. The time of the Dunkirk evacuation. Has anyone else seen this film and if so what did you think of it ? One thing I would commend is Gary Old mans portrayal of Churchill. I hope he gets his Oscar.

Saw it a couple of weeks ago, not that impressed, I doubt he will get an Oscar as it doesn't show America in a very good light and there are no revelations, basically a history lesson.

Today I am alive. Went to a village...Binaries...and walked around for a couple hours then came back for an afternoon sleep by the pool.

Enjoy it to the full LLL
I'm looking forward to a sleep by the pool, but it won't be for quite a while, maybe next year, we'll see.

Re: What are you doing today?
I am not a big fan of traditional Sunday lunch but my daughter has pulled together part of the family to meet up at a country pub that has a good reputation for its restaurant and in particular its Sunday offerings. It's called the Granville at Street End Canterbury. Very dull day today but I might post a picture later.
Oh, and by the way. I have just received an email from Amazon telling me that my soundbar will be delivered before 8pm. I received one yesterday which is already installed. I don't know how but it has been double ordered so it can go straight back.

Re: What are you doing today?
Yesterday I watched a brilliant Rugby match between Wales and Scotland.
Final score Wales 32 - Scotland 7. It was especially wonderful because Wales has been dogged with injuries this year. Brilliant match.
This afternoon it was Italy v England.
Today spite of a really rough and tough Italian side the final score was ....... England 46 - Italy 15.
Fantastic!
