It's a sad day in Peterhead today watching this factory burn to the ground, it's given jobs to thousands of locals over many years.
Just today someone put an old photo of Peterhead on FB, it also shows the factory in the fore ground.
Today it's known as Freshcatch but to many it's better known as Crosse & Blackwell.
So sad

Re: PETERHEAD
No idea yet but thankfully no one was in the building at the time & they got it under control around 10 PM last night after burning since 2.45 PM.

Re: PETERHEAD
I suppose that they have other factories that they can switch their production too, but it is a blow to those that used to work there.

Re: PETERHEAD
That is quite a few people to lose work. Am sure they'll rebuild in time and everybody will be back to work. Hopefully they have some type of unemployment insurance in the meantime.
Any word yet on why the fire started?
22 months ago a US chain store TARGET moved into Canada and opened 133 stores and employed 17,000+ people. This past week they announced they will close ALL stores! They have lost 1.3 million/day since opening.
I wasn't here to really hear the promos when they moved into Canada however they were bringing brand names and lower prices. Apparently this did not happen and what they underestimated was that MOST Canadians do shop in the USA and are aware of prices there so selling Item A in the USA for $25USD doesn't make it a good deal in Canada at $50CDN. And, as the news media showed most of the TARGET stores here were never filled up. Lots of empty shelves and never much stock. We have a TARGET here and I did go into it maybe twice in 2 years and can't say I noticed much of anything in the store. I can't remember what I was looking for but didn't find it. Just going to be difficult for 17,000 people to be re-absorbed into the work world.
