Far as I can tell with any degree of accuracy - the Sea Captain Great Grandad's last name was Boyd (no knowledge of first names and last name relatively common) and he'd of sailed out of Saltcoats or thereabouts but ?? He'd of been born somewhere in and around the mid to late -1800s (can't narrow it further) and that is as accurate as I can get so dunno how effective an Ancestry.com would be in trying to locate and trace. Someday it might be worth a one or two month subscription.
