As a final attempt to get things moving I gave both of mine a drink yesterday. The Tesco modrl, just over a week old, is now om the bathroom window cill where it gets good light. The three week old Amazon model is now in the airing cupboard to try to kick it off with some constant warmth. If it fails, it is out, binned, dumped.

Don't be too quick Grandad, it might be a late variety - I had one last year that was a good six weeks behind the other one I bought at the same time. It was red flowered with short stems and completely different flowers to the pink ones which sprinted off - or in one case it's leaves sprinted - different to the picture on the pack too :x

You could well be correct MD :up

After reading your post I went and did a close inspection and the most recent Tesco bulb IS showing signs of movement

The three week old Amazon bulb now banished to the warm but gark airing cupboard, looks as if the stem from the bulb is extending but no green showing yet in the folds. I will give it another day in the cupboard then put it on a window cill for its last chance

To me both bulbs are starting to grow, you can see a leaf tip on the Tesco one that should start greening up soon. If I am not mistaken the Amazon one is trying to push out some flower spikes and that is why it seems to be elongating at the top, you may find a sudden bursting at the crown and a couple of flower spikes quite well formed showing before any visible leaves. ;)

Mine are now definitely both on the move. Minerva and Superstar both have the tips of the bulbs up above the cut across the neck. No sign of leaves but usually the leaves seem to come later with mine.

Once the flower bud gets about halfway out the neck of the bulb it'll really take off. Seems lots of Amaryllis are slow to start but once they are started they're off.

I've been potting Amaryllis this afternoon - at last!

First I took the bulbs out of their pre-packed pot and trimmed the whiskery roots. Then I put some large gravel in the bottom of a bigger pot partly for drainage but also to add stability I hope.

I crumbled the compost that came with the pack and added couple of hands-full of general purpose compost mixed with half a small scoop of water absorbent gel granules. They are granules until moistened so once all were potted up, I gave them a drink of warm water, because my old potting compost was very cold. I thought this might be a good idea, goats thrive on warm water, why not bulbs? After a few hours to allow the granules to start to swell I'll water them again, as per the instructions on the packet.

I have 2 Red Lion that I bought last week but hadn't started, then one each of Minerva, Apple Blossom and Monte Carlo.

I've put the Red Lion in different coloured pots to identify their progress - I'd like to grow one of them for you Ruby, but if you prefer one of the others that's fine.

Photos to follow Inshallah.

Why not? I have a reputation to keep up - of excessive behaviour! :D

If I could afford it I'd buy more as I'm really interested in whether we can influence the speed of growth, time of flowering etc.

I'm also wondering if they can be propagated in the same way as Hyacinths - much quicker than planting seeds. I might sacrifice on if I get a chance to buy more - Tesco had a small display and less than a dozen boxes left.

I have an ambition to plant a bed of them in Ibiza - I did actually see one and it was quite lovely.

I haven't used the granules before, but I do like to try new ideas. :up

Great idea MD, lots of variations to try out the best options, all we need now are the piccies. :up Interestingly my 1st Tesco bulb has almost caught up with 'The Monster' in leaf height although it has no flower spikes as yet, said Monster is still looking good and I will do a more scientific examination in the next few days and report back.

Patient, that's me - though I'm likely to be a patient in a bed from sheer frustration.

I've been trying to upload from a recently upgraded Windows 10 which will not co-operate with almost every piece of advice I've tried.

Eventually I managed to get the picture the right pixel size by using Paint ( which was hiding in the system  )

Wonderful, but when I tried to download it on this site - jpeg not allowed! None of the alternatives on this site could I send through Paint.

Two hours now I've been trying this - through Microsoft help, Google help Uncle Tom Cobley and All.

I'm going to get my breakfast and come back later, but I will Inshallah crack this. :up

MD, Jpeg files are certainly allowed :ni: so just as a reminder:

Your image must not exceed 1280 width X 960 pixels high for a Landscape image
For a Portrait Image you must not exceed the 960 pixels for the height, therefore the width is also a lot smaller, usually in the 600's

The other important factor is that the file size should NOT exceed 500kb per image.
