Amazing there are still finds like this to be found especially under a major city. There isn't too much info in the article but the visuals really give me the feel this was man made. Most caves (I think) are essentially made by water and therefore, to me, should have a more rounded effect whilst those chisel'd out have more squarish and sharp rock formation.

Re: New Find
Very interesting LLL, but having once been a caver for many years I can say it looks natural enough to me, some caves are really weird. What is unusual is that they have reached an aquifer which is more like an underground lake than the usual ‘sump’ found in most caves where the water (usually a small stream) in an active cave will disappear into only to emerge again elsewhere.

Re: New Find
Gosh LLL! In the first picture the top and sides of the cavern over the inflatable certainly look remarkably chiselled.
It might be more of a picture showing an inflatable below ground rather than on the underwater lake. I guess getting a boat of that size ( deflated of course ) through a tunnel only big enough to allow an adult to crawl through must have been very difficult.
I wonder if the discovery is a bit of a victim of journalism?

Re: New Find
I reckon the shape is due to the sides being forced apart with the pressure of the glacier above, it will have split below a bedding plane and so it looks to have a flat roof and square sides, then take thousands of years of natural water erosion to give it a nice polish.

Re: New Find
I can swear and attest I will NEVER find anything underground as I will NEVER go into any hole nor will I ever go higher than my knees!
I thought the photos interesting as it did look really squared off and chisel'd to me. Would have though everything would have been rounder.
Be an interesting find and I will enjoy reading and/or seeing/hearing about it but will never ever see it in person (Just couldn't get me to into anything underground)

Re: New Find
So you would be no good edging your way along a bedding plain on your back and your nose just touching the roof with the water level slopping around your ears, every time it got sloshed by someone else it would cover your mouth. It was so narrow that you had to remove your hard hat as the beck would scrape on the roof and then move along by pushing with just your heels, it was known as “the giant’s windpipe”

Fresh air and open spaces for me!
I'm not a mole, I don't live in a hole - as my youngster said.

Re: New Find
Nope I couldn't go down into a hole. I don't like confined spaces at all nor do I think I could ever crawl along on my back anywhere either. Not even going to remotely try either!
