Crossing the border, otherwise known as crossing the road from Bethlehem to Jerusalem
Posted on October 12, 2012
As we walked away from Claire’s, we all stood under the shadow of the wall and read the stories posted on the Wall Museum. These spread along the concrete and the only place we could stand and read them was on a narrow busy road with a blind bend. Not for the first or last time this week did we stare imminent death in the face. On the other side of this 30 foot wall was Rachel’s Tomb, revered by Christians, Muslims and Jews. Once a stone’s throw away from Claire’s place, now an attraction that would take too long to visit. Unfortunately we didn’t have the time either as it would have been a long trip to get around the wall and get to visit it. It felt weird hearing vehicles on the other side, almost like there should have been silence.

I visited an exhibition at the start of this week showing pictures drawn by children living in Gaza. At that point I didn't realise how poignant that visit would be.
Please look at the pictures in my blog and spare a thought for what they are going through at the present time. :(

When the star in the sky is gone,

When the kings and prices are home,

When the shepherds are back with their flocks.

A slight apology and a Happy New Year to you all!
Posted on December 31, 2012 by shakingtheshadowsfromtheolivetrees
As the last day of 2012 is upon us and the bright shiny future of 2013 is looming, I feel I owe you my readers a slight apology.

I started my blog back in April, which seems like a lifetime ago now. In my initial posting I said my blog would not have a political or religious slant. This was back when I was naively believing I could learn about the area and also visit whilst keeping an open mind about the occupation. This, I could not do and I do realize that my posts do have a political bias to them.

Last Sunday I wrote a blog for the first time in ages. Later that day a video was posted on the internet regarding a 13 year old boy who was shot and killed in Gaza. The death of Hamid Abu Dagga sparked the so called war ‘Pillar of Cloud’ last November.

Harry Fear, is an activist and was in Gaza when the shootings and bombings started in Gaza. He was reporting live via the internet on minute by minute accounts of what was happening where. Russia Today asked him to be their correspondent and he has since embarked on a tour discussing the issue of Palestine worldwide. Currently he is back in Gaza and has released this video.
