Just my annual - it is amaryllis time thread! I've never been able to re-grow an amaryllis to the point of getting it to bloom again so have finally given up that hope. Only took me 30 or so years to realize I wasn't going to get another one to grow and bloom again no matter what I do.
This year I might go for a pink one -maybe - although the red usually pulls me to them once I'm in the store and making a choice.
Amaryllis time soon :) :)

Re: Amaryllis time soon :) :)
And so I go down to the store and all the bulbs are terrificly huge, healthy and I put one in my buggy. Am wandering around looking at all the other garden stuff when "DUH!!!" I'm NOT in Canada and I can be traipsing bulbs or plants across the border.........GEEZ!
Talk about having a momentary memory lapse!
Soooo had to go back return the bulb to the shelf
Dunno what I was thinking - well obviously I wasn't thinking......will find one in Canada. (Do feel kinda silly though)
Also have to admit it did cross my mind to try and smuggle it through - BUT - ya know I couldn't take the chance. Wasn't that I was worried I'd be importing some dreaded amaryllis disease it was more that I'd get caught.
I read somewhere else on one of the Forums about Tourists coming from the UK bringing (and I assumed smuggling) bacon to Expats living in Luxor. Am thinking bringing raw meat wouldn't be allowed yet it seems it is done. I can understand bringing tea bags or cookies/biscuits but I thought it rather - ummm what is the word I want? - BOLD of an Expat to ask a friend to bring meat (bacon was what was identified) and then pretty RISKY for a Tourist to be smuggling this in.
Would you take the chance?
