Moth Orchids

Post by Horus »

Just thought that I would post you a couple of pictures of a 'Moth Orchid' that my son bought his mum at Christmas. It is only when you get up really close that you appreciate the real beauty of these flowers, I am very tempted to try growing a few of these :)

Oh no! stop it! belay that last idea! I have too many hobbies as it is!

It had been snowing outside, so the background is also white! sorry

Beautiful, & if you treat it right it will flower several times. :D

I grew quite a few different orchids when I lived in the UK, some of which I left with my mother when we left & one had just flowered again before I got back in December. I can't remember what it was called but it was highly scented with purple flowers.

Thanks Fran, I will leave that to Mrs H (she of the green fingers :) )
I will no doubt bring about the 'kiss of death' if I do more than just take it's picture
Hope you had a good trip back to UK and it was not too cold for you :)

Although orchids are one of my favourite flowers I don't seem to have many photos of them - I now have a reason to go back to Thailand :)

Sorry Horus no names - these were taken at a roadside cafe just outside Bangkok, I did ask my friends what type of orchids they were but the best they could come up with was - they name 'flower'.

I am loving the simplicity of those white ones ....stunning!
They look like they have faces in them. :)
There are also some very lovely wild orchids that grow here in spring :)

Wow H - that orchid is absolutely gorgeous. The white is PURE. Lovely lovely lovely.

And BB - OMGoodness - those Thailand orchids are wonderful particularly the first one. WOWWWWWW!!!

I have noticed in the past few years here when I cruise the Garden Centres that there is a resurgence in Orchid growing. For years in this area I never saw any at all. In the past couple of years they've really been being trucked in here.

I read the growing requirements of orchids and I'm highly skeptical I could keep it up. I love flowers and gardening and growing but when I look at everything it takes to get an orchid to bloom - well - I really admire those who can do this. The result however are awesome!!!
