Yes - hot tub/Jacuzzi that is what I'm talking about. I love 'em. Very strict cleaning standards about the public ones here and, on reflection re: cleanliness standards in Egypt ....... well ..........maybe not a good idea to go and soak in the Jacuzzi's of Luxor :? :? But I have noticed people do like them.

Our En suites are shower rooms, we do not have baths, showers take up less water. We have a Jacuzzi outside though

Goodness you are right Horus some of the toilets even in private homes are dire, the public toilets few and far between are even worse, the hygiene is so poor in the toilets outside a 5* hotel it takes some believing

Perhaps they use the currency as toilet cleaners, it always looks and smells as if they do,  its almost as disgusting as the toilets outside of main hotels, but on a serious note keeping things clean is no big deal and costs very little, so hygeine habits must come into it. :sk

Keeping things sanitary and clean takes work and IMO there is a good 50% of Egypt that wouldn't lift a finger to flick a dead fly off a table. This leaves the other half the totally disgust task of constantly cleaning up after them and am sure after they heat and exhaustion factor figures in it leaves little time for wanting to continuously clean up after others who see no reason to define 'cleaning' as their job.

Just lately I visited a home that had no running water, a hand pump in the garden, no electricity, chickens running about in the garden, kids loads of them no shoes playing in the dirt. I was asked inside for a cup of tea, whoops didn't fancy it but when I got inside it was spotless, mud floors but swept, white covers on the dikka's that put my whites to shame. Pots hung on the wall that you could see your face in and the cleanest egyptian toilet that I had ever seen. This was an unexpected visit so they hadn't had time to prepare.
The poorest homes here are often the cleanest.

Carrie, we have been invited to many such homes in the villages over the years and have found the same situation. Always a friendly welcome and excellent mint tea :)

I have absolutely no hesitation that Egyptian women keep a spotless home. I think they work non-stop and are more than willing to scrub anything clean. The men, on the other hand..............???

I've seen some men come in and just start dropping stuff at the door with no regard as to who is going to be picking up after them. Doubtless it is their sisters and mother but the way they've entered and dropped stuff......hmmmmm :urm: :urm:
