Mexican Food

Post by Winged Isis »

Went to City Stars Mega Mall (very impressive) and had Mexican, one of my favourite cuisines, at "On the Border" (American company, I think??).

Excellent food, beautifully presented. Bottomless (and tasty and zingy) salsa/chips to start. The prawn/chicken fajitas were great as the prawns were a decent (almost Aussie) size, instead of those shrivelled cardboard-like miniscule shrimps you usually get in Egypt in a dish labelled "prawns". My husband MOST impressed with these. Says now he can see why they are one of my favourite foods.

They do a good Margarita too! Including the salted rim!

Only gripe was the guacamole, which needed lemon juice and salt, as it was nearly tasteless.

Good service, pleasant decor, reasonable prices.

It's right up on the top level, beside "Wagamama", but that's another story.

Both thumbs up! :P :P :P :P :P

Did anyone have ribs from your party?

Want to know if their ribs are good as that's my fav choice in Tex Mex.

There are prawns of all sizes in Egypt as anywhere else but as anywhere else you pay more for the large ones. The largest ones I ever ate in my life were at a restaurant in Alexandria.

And Mexican is a better choice for an Egyptian husband of limited food experience than Japanese. They use a lot of the same ingredients as Egyptian in Mexican cooking.

Never EVER seen prawns that size anywhere in Egypt, even at an Alexandrian seafood restaurant; it's always been the titchy little rubber things you wouldn't waste your time peeling, and I am always trying as seafood is my favourite and I usually order it when dining out. Oops, forgot (just woke up) we had almost Aussie-size King-prawns at El Borg near us a couple of nights after, but they over-cooked them a bit, but were a vast improvement. He loved the Mexican as I thought he would, for the reason you said, which is why I took them there before the Japanese, so as not to put them off trying that.

Ebi, I cannot remember if they had ribs (I think so), but I didn't choose them. I had to do the choosing as they were unsure. Next time, when we are back in January, as I love them too! :P

I only ever buy the huge monster size prawns, I won't waste my time on a prawn that is shorter than my finger after peeling. Pay a lot for them though, and normally only seen in the five star places or the best seafood restaurants. Everywhere else seems to like those little mini-iddy things.

Mmm, I think they'd be more use to me as an eraser for my artwork than food!
