Great place to spend a few hours with or without the kids

For 30-150 le you can choose a figurine and decorate it whilst sipping a cool glass of mango juice in one of Ceramic Cafes two Cairo locations.

The staff will then 'fire it' in the kiln and you can pick up your very own masterpiece next day 8)

Ceramic Cafe is at:

Heliopolis (Tel: +2 (02) 241-7603) and the other in Mohandiseen (Tel: +2 (02) 3303-8696).

I think we have something similar in Alex, but called the Clay Cafe and think they do plates and mugs and things. I've never been, but have been told it's a nice way to make something handmade of your own and have a girly gossip and coffee at the same time.

When I was a little girl, a lady had a ceramic shop in her home. We kids spent many hours there making ceramics and she would fire them. I still have the heart shaped piece with pink roses on the lid that I made my mother for Valentine's Day one year. With my message to her etched on the bottom. I got it after her death.

Although there are a few private individuals who still make and sell the greenware, they are hard to find nowadays. It's really a fun thing to do.
