Anyone have a hotel to recommend in Cairo - downtown, zamalek - more on a moderate side of pricing??

I know the big tourist/business hotels like the marriot and sheraton, etc. But if someone wants to stay longer than a couple of days and they aren't with a tour, a more inexpensive place is required.

Some places that I've had recommended before are Shepheard's and the Victoria.

I've stayed a couple of times in the Grand Hotel, which is quite cheap and centrally located.

Does anyone have other places to recommend?

I can thoroughly NOT recommend the Cataract Pyramids Hotel. The reception staff are ignorant, rude unhelpful. The room was tastefully decorated with mosquito splats. The bedding looked used, I slept in my clothes on my own towel. I could swear I saw the thick rug move - - The bathroom had one and a HALF taps. Altogether a delightful place - - :x

Wow, sounds like a nightmare place for sure. And it does come up in the searches so I imagine many make the mistake of staying there.
