Naturopath Doctor and FOOD

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

I went to see a Naturopath doctor. We have quite a few in this area and the naturopaths were very good with the daughter and the twins who seem allergic to anything and everything. The daughter swears by them.

For me I've always had a thought that natural remedies, natural food and clean living are optimal but I've never gone to a Naturopath and have only for the most part relied on traditional medicine (except for acupuncture which I swear by).

So went to the Naturopath, gave him my life history and did all the testing. Results came back that overall I have "substantial environmental intox" which he explained almost all people who live in cities and breathe air have. You'd have to live in a total area of clean air and water and away from everybody to not have this register. My thyroid is low (traditional blood work supports this). His tests also showed my adrenlins and hepar are low, my lymphatic system is stressed, I have evidence of mineral insufficiency and the MOST distressing to me was that I registered as having MERCURY INTOX.

He explained that this basically shows I eat fish. I didn't register a "score" so it tells him I'm not only eating fish however people who do apparently do register an actual score vs just an indication. (Wasn't happy that our fish have mercury which is even showing up in me)

He also tests for food sensitivities. Was quite surprised at the results and I showed as having sensitivities to: wheat, beef & chicken, apples, blueberries, cherry and coconut and strawberries, broccoli, celery, green pepper and onion, string beans, turnip, sunflower seeds curry and all forms of bakers and brewers yeast, beer and MSG.

I never ever drink beer and avoid MGS like the plague but pretty much the rest of everything I eat. I do agree that wheat these days seems to be a food substance that many people are now having to avoid and I will eliminate it from my diet (for now ;) ). The rest I shouldn't be eating in large quantities daily and he said if I rotated these foods i.e. if I eat Blueberries Monday then don't eat them again 'til Thursday I'd be fine.

His therapeutic plan is to get my thyroid and adrenils functioning better and then he'll prescribe a detox program to flush all the toxins out.

I'm giving the Readers Digest version here as everything he said and talked about makes sense. The results of the tests he conducted were interesting.

He also does acupuncture so am going to get him to pin cushion me and hopefully get my hip healing and working better. Traditional meds have had their chance and don't really work so now I'm going for acupuncture.

Anybody see Naturopaths? Thoughts? Insights? They're definitely not traditional medicine however I do believe they've got a place in our health.

I have a natural antipathy to any thing or body that is remotely medical! I hate going to the doctors and make appointments and prescription requests online; if I have to go to a hospital for any reason other than visiting a friend or relative, I stay away - I rarely even go to a pharmacy if I can avoid it - so I guess the answer to your question would be a very positive 'NO'!

Egg and Chips for the rest of your life then LLL ;)

I have a few general comments. My son in law has some distortion of his spine that cause back ache. He has recently spent a mint of money on a chiropractor who claims he has straightened his spine, still got back pain though.

In desperation he is now trying acupuncture, they assured him they could cure his back pain. He is only a few hundred pounds into the treatment, is getting pain he never had before, and today our daughter told him to pack it up and DEMAND some proper investigation and treatment on NHS.

As I said earlier I went to a Doctor today. After discussing my symptoms and being proded on the couch, he said 'I think you need to look at your diet, you are not getting enough fibre'. I told him I have porridge with a large handfull of AllBran mixed in for breakfast. We have fresh vegetables and fruit EVERY day and hardly ever buy processed food. I am afraid that stumped him and as I have said, he prescribed a very big box of powders to flush my system, a bit like you do your domestic central heating every few years.

Sorry LLL but I am not convinced by this alternative medicine stuff. Too many tigers, gorillas and rhinos die in its name (I am stretching a point and joking ;) )

Quite a few years back I had a small cyst removed from my forehead in the doctors office. The doctor managed to cut BOTH the nerve to muscle and feeling and when the stitches came out the entire upper quadrant of my faced drooped :o :o :o BADLY! I had no feeling, couldn't move my eyebrow at all and my eye was drooping.

Went through mega tests, saw specialists and bottom line they could do nothing other than 'hope and pray' my face would restore itself one day. I was really devastated.

I had a scheduled trip to Trinidad for 3 months and went to a lady acupuncturist there. She was original from China, trained in the UK where she met her future husband and then they all moved to Trinidad.

She was phenomenal and had me looking like a pin cushion in no time. My intended holiday there was somewhat interfered with in that I had to see her twice/week for the entire 3 months but she worked wonders with her acupuncture and today I CAN move my eyebrow and although the feeling is diminished I can now FEEL my forehead quadrant.

She'd trace the mid-line of my brow and insert needles about my head, arm, hip, leg foot. After about 6 weeks she added electricity to the needles. It was never more painful than feeling a slight buzz but it worked extremely well and I could visibly SEE results after each visit.

Now I can tell by looking in the mirror that one eyebrow is still slightly lower than the other but nobody else notices.

I'm 100% sold on Acupuncture IF you get a GOOD Acupuncturist. I did have 2 visits to a man in the USA and he tentatively inserted 2 needles and called it good and mostly I had a good lie down on a surgical bed for 30 minutes. My Trinidad doctor knew exactly what she was doing and that I could tell by the confidence, speed and expertise she displayed in positioning the needles while tell me which one each was for.

@Grandad - If you son in law is experiencing pain AFTER the procedure that is NOT good. You get NO PAIN at all with acupuncture and IMO if the practitioner is telling him this is how it is supposed to be I'd be walking out the door.

The idea of the needle is to draw blood to the area which promotes healing. The idea of my forehead was to get the needles positioned IN the end of the nerve so as to promote them to grow again and heal themselves which is what happened as as they grew they brought back muscle that I could control. Should be the same with your son in law. The acupuncturist should be using the needles to bring about healing via stimulation of the nerve/blood etc and there should be no pain. I'd be trying another Acupuncturist asap.

I've done lots of therapeutic massage (after being rear-ended in the car) and if you get a good therapist they can work wonders too. There should be a warm up of the body via exercise (walk on a tread mill) then some stretching, then the massage followed by a laying on of a large ice pad. It works wonders too for the healing of stiff muscles from fractured bones.

Never did make it to a chiropractor though.

I honestly believe that we probably all ARE full of toxins and to periodically clean and clear them all out of our system(s) is what is needed.

When I lived in Kent I had a wonderful acupuncturist at the local cottage hospital.. His fees were very reasonable.

When I first went to see him I had severe knee pain and couldn't climb stairs. I went every week for four weeks and each week the pain lessened, until not only could I walk up and down stairs without pain, but I had a 5 hour major shopping spree without any discomfort at all.

He suggested a top up once a month for three months and then a visit once every three months.

Because of my work in Egypt I couldn't keep to the regime, but the effects of his treatment lasted a long time, several years in fact.

PS I have arthritis all over, so he treated me as a whole. On one occasion he used 72 needles and as I was putting my socks on after the treatment I found 5 needles still in place under my ankle!

I would love to see a Naturopath. My chinese acupuncture doctor is famous, people come from other countries to see her. She puts the pins in ( I call them pins so I can drag my cissy friends there) I sit in a chair with my head on a bed for 45 mins ( I do nod off) She takes them out, I warily drive home with the pain gone. Next morning I wake up very happy. I did go to a chiroparacter years ago who said he could cure me, I said I would pay if he did. He didnt, I paid nothing. Never again will I allow anyone to manipulate my bones.

If you get a good acupuncturist they're fantastic and can work miracles. I'm starting another course to get rid of the pain in my hip.

@MD I know what you mean about having a full body workup of pins. The doctor in Trinidad did that with me towards the end of the treatment on my face. Don't know how many she used but they were everywhere and afterwards you do feel so wonderful.

I think sometimes the patient/doctor is a bad match (which sounds like the case of Grandad's son). I can only say that acupuncture worked miracles for me and so I'd be definitely trying another therapist.

@Jayway - I eat LOTS OF fish and while the test showed I had 'mercury' it didn't register high enough to show an amount. In other words I don't have enough to believe it is a problem. I'm definitely going to continue on with eating fish ;) I'd actually be more suspicious of the beef and chicken we eat being full of chemicals. And the Naturopath also told me to avoid all the processed foods (which I typically try to do anyway), all the modified sugars, wheat and 'white vinegar.' He suggested if I use white vinegar to substitute apple cider which is good for you but apparently white vinegar is not.

@H - yeah if you like the taste - me + beer + ciders and most alcohol - well yucky (hate the taste). If I drink an alcoholic drink usually the taste of alcohol has to be totally disguised so ? I've never seen the point of drinking it so rarely do although some wines (don't even know the names) aren't bad.

If Shiraz and Merlot are dry wines I think those are the ones I like.

Ohhhh Hmmm. It has been a long time since I even had a glass of wine but it was white. Not fizzy or bubbly but it was white as in clear. Am no wine expert in the least so am sure the two type you like could be wonderful ;)

COFFEE and TEA are my drinks of choice :) ;)

I've been dry since September 1991 but I do remember the ahh! moment that came with the first glass and my shoulders came down.

Unfortunately a half bottle of a lovely red wine which coincided with a very bad tummy bug put me off red wine completely. Instead I turned to Rhine wines and bought direct from the vineyard. A cool glass while sitting in the shade of a summer garden is rather special, but not something that I often think about.

The Rhine wines would be my choice for white wine, and all this talk has prompted me to crack a bottle of Merlot this evening, anyone fancy a glass? :br

We have Vinho Verde here. Its new wine slightly fizzy, the only one I ever liked but only drank once as they all give me awful headaches.

I haven't had an alcoholic drink for over 30 years. I realised that I only drank to make others more comfortable, and I really hated the taste of it, so I stopped. If others can't cope with me not drinking, that's their problem, not mine. :)

We are only very very modest drinkers of alcohol. Just something with our evening meal, perhaps a light beer or a glass of, like Horus, Shiraz or Merlot. Not too keen on whites, find them a bit acidic. Have got three bottles of sparkling Prosecco though in the wine cellar (that's the wine rack under the stairs  ) if anyone cares to join us. ;)
