Realilty TV Show

Post by LovelyLadyLux »

I was flipping through channels a couple weeks ago and while "Reality TV" is not my cup of tea at all as I was cruising channels I heard "Vancouver Island" so I paid attention and watched the advert.

There is now a show on the History channel here called "ALONE" and the premise of the show is to see who can survive the longest in an inhospitable wilderness location - AND - the location is the north end of the Island where I live!! :o

I watched the introduction and apparently 10 survivor specialists were dropped off in different locations of the north end of the island and left there to see who can survive the longest. Course they're featuring all the bears, cougars and wolves and making out how DANGEROUS it is :P :P

I'm finding it a bit humorous as way way way back in the day of the dinosaur I used to roam these areas intentionally and use many of what these survival experts are showing on the show i.e. feathering a chunk of cedar down to dry wood to make a fire in totally wet pouring rain. None of them seem to know you can eat kelp and/or look UP into the trees to find (what we call) Lion's Mane Mushrooms.

Anyway - it is featured on the History Channel, is showing the second episode tonight (and already 2 of the 10 men have bailed and left due to their perception of extreme dangerous conditions).

Am hoping to watch this through.

The winner, the one who stays the longest, will WIN $500,000.

There must be a good selection audition for these contestants, obviously they must be arrogant, mouthy and good liars ...   Do Keep watching LLL, hope you get to see some bear - - - -

It is being shown here on the same channel, I have not watched it yet, but may do just to see if I can spot LLL sitting on her back porch with a shotgun
These programmes are always over hyped with constructed drama scenarios "I can see a Black Bear and its comming towards us" Oh no! not a Black Bear! :o

It was "Vancouver Island" that caught my eye and definitely 'yes' this show is staged on the north end of the Island and they have dropped these 10 EXPERT Survivors (or experts in survival) into a northern rain forest. So far they haven't seemed to even know how to light a fire or that if they camp at the base of a cedar tree the rain sort of slides off the end of the branches .... but ???

They also seem terrified the bears, cougars and wolves are going to eat them (at least the 1 guy OFF the Island first night left because a bear came into his camp in the middle of the night). OMG we walked amongst the bears/cougars/wolves for years and honest they RUN AWAY and really don't bother you at all unless you're leaving food about and they get attracted to the smells. A cougar WILL attack a child but I have no knowledge of them ever taking on an adult. Momma bears get real testy but whenever I've seen a bear (unless old or sick) they beat feet in the other direction real fast.

One survivor man did film a bear AND he did call out to it to alert the bear he was there which was good (vs trying to hide from it) so he did seem to have a bit of bear savy. I have a bear bell and it is always BEST to make sure they know you are there. Bears and surprise are not a good idea so make noise and they'll go away.

It is on Thursday nights here and since it IS the Island I'll probably watch it or, at least, I've watched the first 2 versions.

As far as them starving (which apparently they are) they seem to be ignoring they've all been dropped ON OCEANFRONT and with very little effort you can grab any variety of shell fish right off the beach. Personally I rather like kelp and there has to be tons and tons and tons of kelp available to them...........will watch and see :)

You do have to wonder just how much survival instinct or ability some of these people actually have :urm:

Seems we're starting SEASON 2 of "ALONE" which is about dropping 10 people off on my Island and seeing how long they can survive the WILDS. The one who survives the longest wins $500,000.

Have been thinking to drive north, find 'em and bargain for HALF the winnings if they want to know everything I KNOW to stay alive on the Island ;) ;)

I saw an Advert for this show again on the History channel. They're showing a clip of a lone wolf on a beach running up to somebody.....(NOT real). Can't believe this show went into a second season.

Like most of these 'reality' programs they are all hyped to death and populated with idiots that could not survive in a supermarket. The problem with TV nowadays is that they are so dumbed down so as to cater for the thicko's who find it hard to survive without designer clothes and a mobile phone to hand, so I suppose it is a challenge to them. :tk

Because this "REALITY" stupidity was filmed here I watched most of it last time (Got bored and missed a couple towards the end) but it was silly. We're not the plains of Africa but they made it out like there were wild animals everywhere - bears, cougars, wolves and the contestants were "in danger" every second. They were not although the ones that got wet were probably super cold.

They also talked about the isolation. ISOLATION? After a few days? They had all these contests moaning and Who made the choice to sign up for this silly show? After a few months you're justified but after a few days? Geezzzz.

Just quite surprised to see this show going for a second season. Don't think I'm marking it on the calendar as a 'must see.'
