I was having a browse around on You Tube and came across one of my favourite singers from the 70s & 80s the very lovely Barbara Dickson who always reminds me of Bonnie Tyler (or the other way around) I love the way she forms her words when she sings, a lot different to some of today’s mumbling, so speakers on and enjoy.

One of my favourites is ‘Caravans’

Here is an early one of her singing ‘Answer Me’ not a particular favourite, but it took me back to my childhood when my father who had a good voice could be heard singing this around the house. He would sing the original version by Frankie Laine which was a lot better by the way, although what intrigued me was the change in the words which in the original version was “Answer me Lord above, just what sin have I been guilty of” which was changed in all the later versions by various artists (including Frankie Laine) to be “Answer me oh my love, tell me just what I’ve been guilty of”

I do agree with you on the middle one, much better with Frankie Laine even though he changed some words

Talking of Frankie Laine he was of Italian extraction and for those who’s memories go that far back he was the singer of the opening song in the TV show ‘Rawhide’ a great cowboy series that introduced us to Clint Eastwood who played one of the lead characters Rowdy Yates although Eric Fleming as the trail boss Gill Favour had a higher billing. Mrs H always used to say “ Ooh I could wash his little cotton socks” which I took to mean that she fancied him.

“They call the wind Maria” was another of his records and making the link again to Clint Eastwood it was sung by Eastwood in the film Paint Your Wagon

OMG! H they take me back, and what amazes me about all those old songs, we can still remember most of the words

That's what amazes me Grandad, I often forget what I had for breakfast but can always remember most if not all of the lyrics to a song. I have always loved most music and you can bet that after browsing around You tube for less than 10 minutes I could assemble another list of my favourites once I get my memory jogged for me.

I like Ghost Riders in the Sky but have to admit I like Johnny Cash singing it better than Frankie Laine. I think I'm much more attracted to the timbre of Johnny's voice.

I'm the same with lyrics. For the life of me I couldn't sit down and write down the lyrics of any song BUT play it and I can sing along and I really do KNOW lyrics. They're there in the old brain. I think it has something to do with hearing REAL WORDS that actually tell a story or tell something unlike lots of the music nowadays that is screaming profanity.

Not really, but quite often what is seen by the other viewer's of the embedded video does not have the advertising showing in the same way as you see on your own PC when you view it.

Grandad, never been a Jazz fan myself unless you count the Andrews Sisters, probably an era thing. I am particularly fond of Ballad type songs especially Country & Western

On another note - do you really think that old vinyl LPs will be worth something? I deep six'd all my vinyl years ago. I'd think only collectors would still have record players. Not sure where you'd even find needles anymore.

Like anything LLL there will always be collectors and record fairs are still popular with some folks.

My problem is I can't remember what I forget!! Been many songs I've loved and now can't remember their names or the artists who performed them but it'll all come rushing back soon as I hear them when they play old goldies on the radio.
