Train Crash

Post by Hurghadapat »

Saw on the news this morning that Egypt has had yet another train crash with at least 20 people killed and according to someone at the scene it took at least 2hrs before emergency services arrived :? reporter was also saying that because of the bad safety record egypt has both on the rail and road it is now time the government took the matter in hand and sorted the problem. Apparently the first train had stopped because of a cow on the line and second train came along and ploughed straight into the back of it :( Or at least this is what was on BBC news but maybe you have heard differently out there as government not always upfront with the truth when it comes to things like this i think. ;)

You know if it was any other civilized country the Transport Minister responsible would have handed in his resignation or been fired, ( most would rather resign I've noticed).

The owner of the said cow would be held accountable and taken to court if it was found he was negligent in keeping the animal secure near a railway.

Transport Office executives would be terrified of the police coming to arrest them and take statements on safety standards.

The Rail Company would be sued for millions and have to upgrade and comply with International standards of safety.

The families would be taking the Rail Network to court and seeking compensation, let alone the police investigation.

It would be on every news channel for the next few weeks, every newspaper, there would be debates on TV with politicians.

There would be a public inquiry.

There would be an public inquest.

Public outcry.

People would be demonstrating, lobbying parliament, writing to politicians.

It would go on for years like the King's Cross disaster or the Marchioness.

Memorials would be held, plaques and memorials erected.

The public would be laying flowers and wreaths along the track.

God only knows what else.

BUT we are in Egypt where life is cheap and the victims are buried in haste and forgotten.
The government will hand the families an envelope with the price of a years lentils and the family will take it and say no more.
Not one family I suspect will refuse the envelope and fight for justice, and so the cycle continues...........................

NOTHING WILL CHANGE till the people demand their rights and the powers to be accept responsibility and accountability, and that's not going to happen anytime soon.
It's just too much effort and Egyptian's 'don't DO effort'.

You never said a truer word Ebikatsu than 'egyptians don't do effort' but to the detriment of their country i think, but what did they say about it on the news out there anything or nothing :?

It only made headlines on CNN and BBC for 24 hours.
It was on local channels 2 days.

I haven't seem today's local paper so don't know if the story is still running, maybe someone else has seem it?

The thing is there were only 10 more killed than the 2 accidents outside in our main road and that doesn't make the news, because that is considered 'normal for Egypt'. The only time it really hits the news if foreigners are involved.

:(

YOU ARE NOT GOING TO BELIEVE THIS!!!

47 minutes ago the Minister for Transport Lotfy Mansour resigned over the crash!!!!

Do you think he saw my thread :?

The billionaire Mansour is the only distributor for General Motors cars in Egypt, the guy who buys the trains for Egypt, his brother ? or is it sister owns Metro Markets and Labanita companies amongst other things.

Wonder if he will get a good voluntary resignation package

Well Ebikatsu i really do hope the government log on to this forum and read your posts as think nobody in egypt will do anything about it :) and also in the papers here they are saying that the signalman was also killed as he had got onto one of the trains to go to his village :? without giving a warning about the train that had stopped :o
