The statue of Thutmosis III is my favourite statue of any I 've seen. It is glorious. I often wonder what his feet would have looked like though. ;)

Yes, we were expected to eat everything and, if we didn't, we wouldn't get pudding. My Mom's also a good cook, so no hardship. My son will try everything and there are very few things he doesn't like. I have read that it is important to give babies the widest variety of tastes possible from when the...

Well I'm.... :D They need to be able to follow quite complicated and long plot lines, so not too young. My son is 11 and we have tried twice since he was 7 to get into the series but, after the films, which are simplified and much faster paced as a result, it hasn't worked. One of his friends has ha...

Thanks Horus! I'm finding L4U a little acid at times just now but the atmosphere on E4U seems more like I remember L4U used to be - very friendly and relaxed. :)

Well, I love the HP books. I find all the detail of the alternative world of wizarding very well created and there is lots of humour that is entirely missing from the films, as a result of time constraints, no doubt. The films stand almost on their own and I have enjoyed watching them as a separate ...

One of my friends is convinced that democracy is going to break out all over the region, including Egypt. She can't remember any other leader but Mubarak; she is 37. There is a great deal of reaction to recent events from young Egyptians on the internet on such sites as Facebook. If matters do escal...

Dr Magdy Yacoub is building a hospital for cardiac surgery and treatment in Aswan. He has funded the building himself (the government gave him the land) and he will perform surgery for free there. Not full-time, as you would expect, however, he is also involved in organising doctors from outside (an...

"Delicate" is in one of my favourite selection folders on my MP3 player. Lisak, do you remember how he used to do a backflip? My friend was also obssessed with him and she went to to see him live. She used to do this funny sort of pretend backflip but without the flip - you know how a cat ...

I love the Elizabeth Peters books about Amelia Peabody Emerson. I think I've read them all and I always keep my eye open for the latest one in Gaddis bookshop. They really make me smile and are so evocative of the romantic idea of Egypt and Egyptology. :)

I doubt, somehow, that anything like that will happen even though it should. Look at how many UN resolutions Israel has ignored before and without any consequences. The UN really has no teeth to enforce anything, especially when the USA abstains (I stiil can't catch my breath over that!). :(

I'm reading "The Historian" by Elizabeth Kostova: (From the dustcover) Late one night, exploring her father's library, a young woman finds an ancient book and a cache of yellowing letters addressed ominously to 'My dear and unfortunate successor'. Her discovery plunges her into a world she...
